You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores...

– “Secret Pleasures” by Ernest Hemingway from A Moveable Feast.
This bit was actually left out of the final cut, but put back into the restored version as a footnote… possibly because it is such a beautiful paragraph about his wife Hadley and himself.

Chekhov Disappoints
I remember reading Anton Chekhov’s short story “The Lady with the Dog” years ago and liking it quite a bit. Thinking Chekhov must be a decent writer since he is hailed as one of the greatest writers of all time, I decided to pick up a book with five of his short stories on the topic of love and attraction, which I’ve been getting through on my subway commutes.

F-11 Photographic Supplies, Bozeman, Montana
What did I do today?
Spent $86 on film at F-11 Photographic Supplies in Bozeman, Montana, but no guilt here for supporting the only professional film processing store in the state.
And did I mention the mini-geek-out-freak-out I had in the store because it was so awesome? I liked it better than Salt Lake City’s pictureline that I raved about last month and that place was pretty damn...

An Obituary
A very special wetland died today, and I was a witness. This is what I saw. We walked 25 km along abandoned railroad tracks to Torotorofotsy, an internationally-protected RAMSAR wetland. After three days of heavy rain, we were sure to see the Golden Mantella (Mantella aurantiaca), a thumb-sized critically endangered frog found only in a handful of places, one of them being Torotorofotsy. We...
